GURUGRAM, Haryana — In a major leap for hyperlocal logistics and next-generation delivery services, Gurugram has become the launchpad for AI-driven drone and robot doorstep deliveries, marking a significant development in the Indian technology ecosystem.
The initiative, led by Skye Air Mobility, a Gurugram-based drone delivery company, was officially unveiled at the recent India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. Under the new system, advanced aerial drones paired with artificial intelligence-powered ground robots are delivering parcels directly to customers’ homes — with minimal manual intervention.
How the Technology Works
Skye Air has integrated its Skye Port hyperlocal delivery hubs with physical AI infrastructure to support fast and automated logistics. The drones carry packages — weighing up to about 10kg — to designated “Arrive Points” such as secure smart mailboxes installed in residential townships and commercial complexes. From there, AI-controlled autonomous ground rovers complete the final leg of the journey, navigating streets to bring parcels right to the customer’s doorstep using digital verification methods.
According to company officials, the delivery system is designed to operate efficiently in densely populated urban environments, routing around road traffic and reducing traditional last-mile delivery challenges.
Environmental and Operational Impact
Skye Air’s CEO Ankit Kumar highlighted that the company has already completed nearly 3.6 million drone deliveries over the past 2.5 years, resulting in a reduction of more than 1,000 tonnes of carbon emissions — underscoring the sustainability potential of drone logistics.
Officials say the move could help ease vehicular congestion and pollution in NCR cities by reducing dependence on road-based delivery fleets.
Expansion Plans and Future Prospects
While Gurugram has been chosen as the initial launch zone, Skye Air plans to expand the service to major Indian cities in the coming months and eventually globally. The company has also entered into international collaborations, including partnerships with U.S.-based firms such as Arrive AI and Autonomy, to scale its autonomous delivery ecosystem across broader markets.
The development comes at a time when India is pushing for greater adoption of AI technologies and smart logistics solutions. With the world watching, Gurugram’s AI-powered drone delivery rollout could set a template for future urban logistics systems both in India and abroad.
