MYSURU: The Mysuru City Police have stepped up their fight against narcotics by launching a comprehensive anti-drug campaign that includes drone surveillance to monitor public spaces and curb illegal activities.
As part of the initiative, drones are being deployed to keep a watch over parks, abandoned buildings, rooftops and other vulnerable areas where drug consumption and peddling have been reported in the past. The aerial surveillance is aimed at preventing the misuse of secluded locations and ensuring swift police action against offenders.
Police officials said the use of drones has significantly improved monitoring capabilities, enabling officers to detect suspicious gatherings and respond promptly. The visible presence of drones is also expected to act as a strong deterrent against drug-related activities in the city.
In addition to drone patrols, the campaign includes intensified night patrols, regular checks in sensitive areas and increased interaction with local residents. The police have also appealed to the public to share information about drug peddling and consumption through dedicated helplines and social media platforms.
The drive is part of Mysuru police’s broader effort to create a drug-free city, with special focus on protecting students and youth from falling prey to narcotics. Officials said similar technology-driven measures will be expanded to other parts of the city in the coming days.
The police have reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in drug trafficking and abuse, while awareness programmes will continue to educate citizens about the harmful effects of narcotics.
