Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir:
A suspected Pakistani drone was detected in the border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, prompting swift action by the Indian Army, officials said.
According to defence sources, vigilant army units spotted the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) hovering near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector. The drone was immediately engaged, and troops opened fire to neutralize the potential threat. The incident triggered heightened alertness across forward areas.
Initial reports suggest the drone is suspected to have originated from across the border in Pakistan. However, officials said confirmation regarding its origin, purpose, and whether it was carrying any payload is still awaited. A thorough search operation has been launched in the area to trace possible debris or materials dropped by the drone.
Security agencies have been on high alert in border districts following a series of drone sightings in recent months. Such drones are often suspected to be used for surveillance or for dropping arms, ammunition, or narcotics into Indian territory.
Local authorities in Poonch said there were no reports of casualties or damage to civilian property following the firing. Residents were advised to remain calm while security forces continued area domination and monitoring.
Defence officials reiterated that the Indian Army remains fully prepared to counter any aerial intrusion and safeguard national security. Further details are expected once the ongoing investigation and search operations are completed.
